BPC-157 vs TB-500: Research Peptides Compared

BPC-157 and TB-500 are the two most cited peptides in preclinical tissue-remodelling research. They are structurally unrelated and are studied through different pathways, which is why laboratory protocols often use them side by side. This guide summarises what each is and how they differ.

Origin and structure

The two peptides come from different biological sources.

  • BPC-157 — a synthetic 15-amino-acid fragment (Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val) derived from a protein sequence identified in human gastric juice. Stable in gastric-juice conditions in vitro.
  • TB-500 — a synthetic fragment corresponding to the actin-binding region (residues 17–23, LKKTETQ) of thymosin β4, a 43-amino-acid G-actin-sequestering protein.

Pathways studied in the laboratory

BPC-157 is most often studied in models of angiogenesis (VEGFR2 and nitric-oxide pathways), fibroblast migration and gastrointestinal cytoprotection. TB-500 and thymosin β4 are studied for actin-cytoskeleton regulation, cell migration and modulation of inflammatory signalling in cell culture and preclinical models.

Why they appear together

Because the two peptides act through non-overlapping mechanisms, a paired protocol can examine both an angiogenic/cytoprotective arm and an actin-regulation/migration arm within one model. The Body Pharm BPC-157 + TB-500 pen supplies both compounds from a single batch-certified cartridge for that purpose.
